Vocabulary
Infrared -having a wavelength just greater than that of the red end of the visible light spectrum but less than that of microwaves. Infrared radiation has a wavelength from about 800 nm to 1 mm, and is emitted particularly by heated objects.
Radio Wave -an electromagnetic wave of a frequency between about 104 and 10. The part of the invisible spectrum that is contiguous to the red end of the visible spectrum and that comprises electromagnetic radiation of wavelengths from 800 nm to 1 mm.11 or 1012 Hz, as used for long-distance communication.
Solar Flare - a brief eruption of intense high-energy radiation from the sun's surface, associated with sunspots and causing electromagnetic disturbances on the earth, as with radio frequency communications and power line transmissions.
Visible spectrum - The visible spectrum is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that is visible to the human eye.
X-ray -an electromagnetic wave of high energy and very short wavelength, which is able to pass through many materials opaque to light.
Perihelion- the point in the orbit of a planet, astroid,or comet at which it is closest to the sun.
Kelvin- the SI unit of thermodynamic temperature equal, in magnitude to the degree celsius.
Celcius- the scale of temperature in which water freezes at 0° and boils at 100° under standard conditions.
Fahrenheit- a scale of temperature on which water freezes at 32° and boils at 212° under standard conditions.
